The INFRA-ART Blog is part of the INFRA-ART Spectral Library project—a FAIR-compliant research data service providing open access to curated, multi-technique spectral reference data on materials commonly found in artworks and cultural heritage objects. The blog was created to help users get the most out of the INFRA-ART data service and to support the wider heritage science community through practical, accessible, and community-driven content. It provides learning materials and resources for exploring and reusing spectral data, while promoting collaboration, applied spectroscopy knowledge, and FAIR data practices. Launched in June 2025, the blog is still evolving, new content and features being added regularly.
Blog content
The INFRA-ART Blog brings together community updates from the INFRA-ART data service, insights into art materials research, and practical guidance on FAIR data management.
Ongoing article series:
INFRA-ART FAIR Journey: shares practical experiences from building and maintaining a FAIR research data service. By transparently documenting our FAIR journey, each article aims to provide hands-on guidance and inspire the adoption of FAIR best practices within the wider research community.
INFRA-ART Spectral Data Collections: highlights key groups of art-related materials represented in the INFRA-ART database. Each article focuses on a specific material category, exploring its chemical composition, technical characteristics, and history of use, while showcasing the related spectral data collections.

The INFRA-ART Blog is built by the community, for the community, and we warmly welcome new voices, perspectives, and contributions from across the heritage science field and beyond. We invite submissions from researchers, conservators, data curators, heritage scientist, students and early-career researchers, as well as other professionals working in cross-disciplinary fields. In particular, we encourage users who have accessed or reused data from the INFRA-ART Spectral Library to share their use cases, workflows, results, and methodological insights, in order to support knowledge exchange and good practice within the community.
How to submit: If you would like to contribute, please send your proposal to: infraart@inoe.ro.
